New rules for hoardings

The government of Maharashtra on 9th May 2022 has published the Maharashtra Municipal Corporations (Regulation and Control of the Display of Sky-signs and Advertisement) Rules, 2022 which shall apply to all the municipal corporations except the Mumbai Municipal Corporation.

* The board should be rust-free and painted from time to time. Periodic safety inspection of the hoarding must be carried out.

* The permit number and the name of the hoarding company should appear in New Roman font, bold, with the size being six inches in white with a black background.

* The installation shall be done mechanically wherever possible and all safety precautions are to be taken to ensure that the hoarding shall not fall.

* Care should be taken to ensure that the hoarding does not obstruct the vision of the motorist or inconvenience pedestrians.

* The lighting should be such that it does not distract the driver.

* The entire process should be online and time-bound.

* The hoarding cannot be more than 40 feet wider than the road along which it is installed.

* The hoarding owner, partner or lease-holder have to ensure that there is no obstruction or inconvenience or any kind of pollution because of the hoarding.

* The billboard owner has to make good any damage done to public property while installing the billboard.

* The hoarding cannot be too close to a door/window of a nearby building.

* The hoarding owner must clean up after putting up the hoarding.

* The hoarding owner shall consult a structural engineer approved by the civic body to ensure stability of the hoarding.

* It is mandatory to get the approval of an electrical engineer as regards the quality and intensity of the bulbs.
